Check out this month's issue of Juxtapoz at the library for an article on Raul Gonzalez III, an awesome artist based in Somerville and one of our favorite library patrons. Raul and his wife Elaine Bay, and SMFA alumni (and two year old son, Raulito, for that matter) often collaborate on the mixed media works, but it's not all rainbows and sunshine - a lot of the work has to do with violence caused by drug cartels. Drawing from his imagination, old comics and Mexican magical realism, he creates images that are politically relevant, funny and engaging all at once.
