TOUCH AND GO: The Complete Hardcore Punk Zine '79-'83
Touch and Go isn't a zine written by angry suburban kids who only love punk and hardcore. A quick flip-through reveals hilarious, in-depth reviews of all things alternative: post-punk, metal, goth and much more. They cover popular bands like 7 Seconds, Gang Green, and The Misfits as well as bands you've never heard of - unless you're really cool, in which case you won't need this gem of a book.

CHRISTIAN MARCLAY: FESTIVAL ISSUES 1-3
These three magazines catalogue Christian Marclay's 2010 exhibition at the Whitney.
For Festival, Christian Marclay created "graphic scores" to be performed by musicians and vocalists.
Zoom Zoom is a slideshow of onomatopoeias found on advertisements. Pret-A-Porter is a performance in which musicians play the musical notes that are printed on clothing. This involved a lot of dressing, undressing and alcohol. Sixty-four Bells and a bow is quite literally musicians playing different types of bells.Fun fact: Marclay's interest in music began right here in Boston in the late seventies when he was studying at MassArt and played music over collaged films of cartoons and sex tapes. Cool!

THE MOST CONTEMPORARY CONTEMPORARY ART BOOK

Everything I like about this book really is explained in the title. Once in awhile a contemporary art book that is devoid of long-winded categorizing, theorizing and historicizing is pretty refreshing. 100 artists from all over the world speak for themselves in short and sweet interviews. It's the perfect jumping off point to find out more about these artists, most of which aren't much older than we are. Here are a few of my favorite up and comers.
